The DiaryOne application for Windows takes what you would expect to get from a traditional diary and builds upon it to provide you with a superior experience. Instead of putting your thoughts down on real paper, instead of confiding to an old-school diary, you’re better off with virtual paper, with a multimedia diary software that has a lot to offer from a functionality and security point of view.

To get started with DiaryOne, you must download and run a 6.6MB executable. A setup wizard will show up when you run said executable and will take you through a simple installation process. You can install the application on top of multiple Windows editions, from Windows 7 down to Windows 2000. After the installation process completes, but before you can start using the application, you must create a private account. This account will prevent others from accessing your diary entries. Or to put it in other words, access to your DiaryOne account is password protected and you’re the only one with the password.

The interface was designed to make DiaryOne resemble a traditional diary. It seems like an old-school diary was taken and put on your desktop – and that’s quite nice. By default the Standard skin is enabled; if you want something a bit more pink, you can enable the Romantic skin from the Tools menu. More skins are available for download on the developer’s website.

As someone who takes security seriously, I have a big problem with traditional diaries. You can write down your personal thoughts in something that must be put under lock and key. Leave your diary on your desk, bed, or anywhere else around the house and anyone can open it and see what you wrote down. Security is an issue with traditional diaries – it isn’t with DiaryOne. As mentioned above, access to your DiaryOne account is password protected. You don’t have to worry about others being able to read your diary because they won’t have access to it.

Another problem I have with traditional diaries is content: you are pretty much stuck with text. By using DiaryOne you can add other types of content to your diary entries. You can add photos, you can include videos, you can select music tracks, you could start an audio or video recording, you can include emoticons, and you can attach any file you want. Getting back to the text, you can edit the font size and style and you can check your spelling. Now that’s something that a traditional diary could never offer.

Some diary entries you will want to remain private, and it’s great that DiaryOne caters to that need. Other entries though you will want to share with the world – and again, DiaryOne is here to meet your needs. If you want to, you can send out diary entries as emails, or you can publish them on Blogger.

A creative multimedia diary keeper that will fit snuggly on your desktop computer, DiaryOne is a virtual diary with a sleek interface that will protect all your little secrets or will easily allow you to share the things you want to make public. DiaryOne’s interface and organizational structure make it the virtual diary to have.

Pros

Access to your DiaryOne account is password protected. You can use skins to customize the way the application looks (two skins are included by default; more are available for download). You can write down any thing you want and customize the text. You can attach files to your diary entries, add music, images, videos, and emoticons. The application comes with a built-in calendar, smart update system, recorder, and cash flow keeper. Your data is automatically backed up. Send out diary entries as emails, publish them on Blogger. There are numerous stationeries to choose from. The spell checker will ensure you do not make any mistakes.

Cons

DiaryOne is free to use only for a 30-day trial period.
